Hero Boukje de Vries

Cherry LAB’s passion for time well spent goes beyond boundaries! We are not only inspired by our own experiences, favorite gadgets and special places. Our inspiration is also stimulated by the unique stories of other globetrotters and people with a mission. That’s why we put a new Hero in the spotlight once in a while. These are heroes from all over the world and of course from our own country. Maybe you are next!

The hero of this edition: Boukje de Vries. She took a big risk, creating a printed magazine in these digital times. And one at that. A beautiful an different magazine: TRAVELBOOK, that tells stories of travelers and are written by them too! She also traveled to Colombia, with her husband and two young kids and she is more than happy about it.

1. What makes you a true hero?

A hero? I like the sound of that! I think that in this time where everything gets digitalized, to launch an offline, printed magazine asks for some guts and determination.

2. What’s driving you and your success? What do you want to achieve?

TRAVELBOOK magazine, here comes the cliché, was born out of our love for travel and sharing travelstories. We noticed that when you travel a lot of people around you ask you for tips, where to go, where to sleep, what to do. Why not gather all these stories and tips and print them in the shape of a beautiful magazine so more people can enjoy it, four times a year. For us the media of our choice, an offline magazine was logical since we both have worked for a publishing agency in Haarlem, The Netherlands. TRAVELBOOK magazine tells the stories, for travellers, written by the travellers themselves, so real stories, from first hand.

3. What is the highlight of your career so far?

When I saw TRAVELBOOK lying at Schiphol at the travel section and held her in my hand. After all our hard work, that was the icing on the cake.

4. What can we expect from you anytime soon?

More beautiful and inspirational stories en the expansion of our online platform travelbook.nl.

5. To top off: what is your ultimate tip for an unforgettable trip?

As a real Asia fanatic I have stepped out of my comfort zonelast year and went on a two week trip to Colombia together with my husband and two children (4 and 6 years old at the time). We have travelled around,  seen a lot and fell completely in love with the country. What a georgeous destination! I shout really loud at anyone who listens: visit Colombia! The nature, hospitality, culture, from impressive mountains to tropical beaches and romantic cities. The country has everything one can wish for. So go!
